    trouble sleeping

    HI,

my boy James (age 11) is on the programme and is nearing the end of his physical co-ordination exercises.  However recently he has been going to bed and not being able to sleep.  I was wondering if this had anything to do with the exercises.... Has anyone else experienced this?

    Regards

    Impy......

Hi Impy, we haven't experienced this but I know the exercises can be quite stimulating for the brain which is why they recommend they are done at least 2 hours before bed. Maybe there are some changes going on with your son at the moment and perhaps the sleeping problem will only be temporary. It might be worth trying to leave more time than usual between exercises and bed (if only there were a few more hours in the day lol!!). I don't know what else to suggest. Hopefully it will just be a passing phase.Good luck.

    Re: trouble sleeping

Hi Impy, having told you we hadn't experienced that problem, suddenly last night Laura couldn't sleep. She said she felt strange and couldn't stop her legs fidgeting and if she closed the bedroom door or covered herself up she felt too closed in. I suggested that she read for a while but she couldn't because the fidgety feeling kept making her lose her place. She did get some sleep but was unsettled for much of the night. This morning she was still very fidgety and couldn't keep her legs still and had also forgotten how to tie her shoelaces. This evening she has not been able to keep her legs still and has been biting her fingers and scribbling quite violently and breaking her pencils. I've never seen her like this before. I'm assuming there's some sort of rewiring going on and that this behaviour will stop soon. It's 10pm and she's still up and fidgeting (she's usually been asleep for 2 hours by now). Has anyone else experienced this sort of thing. Laura's getting quite upset about it. I'm going to try to put her to bed now. Wish me luck!!!!   Tongue Tied

    Re: trouble sleeping

Hi Debbie I cannot remember Leila having that symptom but then she has always been difficult to get to bed to sleep before, during and after Dore. It does sound as though there is restructuring going on there somewhere which is making her feel stressed in her legs as well as mind.

As they reach the Mental tasks so many things start to change so quickly sometimes they cannot keep up with it and their minds go into overdrive. Ask her what her thoughts are at this time what is she thinking about even if it sounds strange or stupid to her and you.

I have said before they develop new emotions and feelings they are not used to and it can be scarey like feeling claustrophobic. James and Laura seem to be going through the same phase but it is the start of the lifting of the fog I keep going on about.

Impy said James seemed more calm in general which Laura will be as well once she comes through it her mind will become a lot clearer and she will finlly understand where she is in the world around her and she will develop the wisdom our children do, which will take them into adulthood.

Laura has made such fast progress through Dore Debbie and it seems as though she will do the same with her mentals. Ask her to explain what she feels and reassure her that it is good, this will go along way to help her see the phase as part of her transition and not that she is going mad. Ellie XXX

    Re: trouble sleeping

Thanks for your wise words Ellie. Thankfully Laura is over the weird fidgety feeling now and seems really cheerful. One strange thing though, when we're doing spellings for mentals, she keeps adding  ING to words that shouldn't have it. She knows when she's done it but doesn't know why. She says she can't help it, it just happens. Very strange! Thanks again for your support Ellie.

Another result of the restructuring Debbie, she knows she is doing it but can't stop herself her mind runs away with itself Tee Hee its the little things like this that we wonder about but do not always realise are actually a sign that things are happening. Go for it Laura!!!! Ellie XXX

    Re: trouble sleeping

James is back at school now, the routine appears to have helped him with his sleeping. He did not go to bed until nearly 9pm which is about an hour later than he usually does but we didnt hear a peep all night (hallelulia). He shold be starting his mental exercises soon so it will be interesting to see how things go with those. Thankyou for all your comments I do find it very supportive talking to other parents/carers who have experienced and are experiencing the Dore programme. Regards Impy.........
