    same exercises

Hi G has been back for her second follow up, and they said she'd done really well. (Last time she'd done reallly well too, they said they'd over-ridden the programme as it was going to give her the next set of exercises up - they thought she was too young and had only just started - which I thought was a good idea). But this time I'm a bit confused - she has about 10 - 15 exercises that are exactly the same (same code), some of which we have only just done. They are a mixture of ones she found easy and hard. I'm reluctant to start using the new book as I don't know how to explain - you've done really well, everything in green, better scores but you have to do the exercises again. Do you think somethings amiss or does this normally happen? thanks all

    Re: same exercises

Hi Jan, just noticed your message. I hope that you've been back to see your programme specialist and had this explained, but if not I'll just go through it briefly. The programme is not about mastering the exercises, but about training the cerebellum and not pushing it too hard. If exercises that are too difficult are given then it has little affect as the cerebellum can't cope and once again relies on the thinking brain. Even if you've done an exercise before, doing it again still has a benefit on the progress, even when you're good at it, the information from the senses is being sent to the cerebellum, which is organising the information and starting to get used to doing more of the work. You will find that similar exercises creep up again and again, sometimes because they were hard, sometimes because you need different types of stimulation (like finger and thumb tapping is obviously stimulating arm and finger muscles, where as kick boxing is leg and stomach muscles). So don't be disheartened if you see similar exercises, it doesn't mean things aren't going well at all, just that we have to make sure things aren't going to be too difficult, too early.
